The Plot!

In 2020: Manu Randhawa (Taapsee Pannu) flies from a London hospital. She seeks aid from immigration lawyer Puru Patel to return home to India through the Dunki route, as she’s unable to secure an Indian visa.

Flashback to 1995: Manu and friends Buggu (Vikram Kochhar) and Balli (Anil Grover) dream of migrating to London for a better life. They’re aided by Hardy (Shah Rukh Khan), a former army officer who promises assistance in exchange for a past debt. Their journey, fraught with peril, takes them through Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey, ending in London. However, disillusionment awaits as they discover the harsh realities of life as illegal immigrants.

Fast forward to the present: Facing terminal illness, Manu desires to return home. Attempting to do so through deception, they’re ultimately deported back to India. In a poignant moment, Hardy, realizing his love for Manu, proposes just before her demise. Months later, Hardy, Balli, and Buggu reject another chance at the Dunki route, embracing their homeland instead.

In “Dunki,” ailing Manu (Taapsee Pannu) seeks assistance from her long-lost acquaintance, Hardayal Singh Dhillon, known as Hardy (Shah Rukh Khan), to return to her homeland, India, after years spent abroad. Flashing back twenty-five years, Hardy encounters Manu, Buggu (Vikram Kochhar), and Balli (Anil Grover) in Laltu, Punjab. They fervently aspire to migrate to the UK for a brighter future.

Despite facing numerous setbacks in pursuing a visa, including failed attempts at wrestling, fake marriages, and degrees, they ultimately resolve to learn English to secure a student visa. Along the way, they befriend Sukhi (Vicky Kaushal), who harbours his desire to reach London.
